- On Thursday I'm headed for the Balkans (I've given up trying to address the countries therein by the right name) where I'll be seeing the sights for a wee bit. I've got something lined up for the meantime, though, which should be an interesting surprise...

- My proofreading project continues. I'll tell you this-- pre-Reformation Catholic divines in Spain were a messed up bunch. Teresa and Maria of Avila? Sheesh. Alas should be back on Monday, without any scourging or fasting.

- Went to the Washington J.C.C. last night and saw the Vulgar Bulgars opening for the New Orleans Klezmer All Stars. Awesome show--the clarinets were really gas-piping, and the both bands had some very Plaid Tongued Devils moments. Yes, I know, I should have been drawing or working... but it's klezmer. I need the recharge.

- Sorry-- no strip today, and probably no strips this week. I just landed a job proofreading a manuscript, and it's most likely going to require my full attention to get it done before I leave the country. Fear not, gentle readers! Alas is still here...

- I went and saw Thomas Dolby (he of "Blinded by Science" fame) at the Birchmere yesterday night. I was hoping to be impressed: I wasn't expecting a nigh-religious experience. I haven't seen a person build layers with keyboards and oscillators like that since the old days in Sound Synthesis class, watching my prof work magic with the basement Moog. Awesome stuff.

- The re-cap is over, and the new storyline has begun. I know the general sequence of events-to-come, but the execution of them has yet to be finalized. Still, dialogue is back.

- Close to the wire, but it's up now.

- Talk about the intersection of cultures this weekend. First, Henry Rollins was the guest on this Saturday's Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me (won the quiz, too). Then that evening I saw Crossing the Bridge, in which the bassist from Einsturzende Neubauten interviews a bunch of local bands in Istanbul. Alexander Hacke rocking out to Duman? Oh yeah.
