Yeeeeesss, I've been delinquent. But I have a new job to show for it! Hurrah! Employment means that I will be able to pay for my server hosting (a bill now five years overdue) and purchase a new supply of cardstock, the physical basis for all Alas strips. It's going to be a busy holiday season, what with a new house, new job, and a niece that needs visiting and presents, but I'll work some new pics into that mix.

Back from Sandusky-- the popularity of HalloWeekend at Cedar Point is reaching the level where the ride lines are as long as they are in the summer. Still, I got to ride the Wicked Twister and the Millenium Force, so it was worth the wait.

Sorry for the late strip-- lots of home improvements going on. I'm waltzing off to Cedar Point this weekend, where the lines for the rides will be mercilessly colder but blissfully shorter.

I am now broadcasting from my NEW HOUSE. Huzzah! I'll get the rest of the hardware up and running this weekend, if I can find it underneath the mountains of other stuff. Two floors of junk and books! I'm in heaven!

I've lived a long time (off and on) in DC, but I'll sheepishly admit that today is the first time I went across the river to Anacostia on purpose. I went to check out the Anacostia Museum, which turned out to be pretty cool. Today was the last day for their current exhibits, so it'll be a few weeks before it re-opens with a new show, but it's well worth the trip. It's not hard to get to, the area around it is more park-like than anything I've seen in Northwest, and it's part of the Smithsonian Institution so it's free admission. How many of the tourists who paratroop to the Washington Monument and back out ever see something like the Anacostia Museum? This is the sort of reverse-snobbery to which I as a new Green Line resident feel entitled.

Just had to tweak the strips a little bit... the art style should look more internally consistent now.

In the past week I have arranged to have a leaky ceiling patched, plumbing installed, a washer/dryer hooked up, and the phone turned on at the new house. I have painted the living room, dining room, and master bedroom. I have put a bottle of black cherry cola in the fridge. I'm juuuust about ready to move into my new house. In celebration, I have prepared a new series of strips. Suffer!

I'm closing on my new house this week, so I'll be a bit busy-- and possibly out of reach. Fortunately, I already have all of the coming week's strips finished and uploaded.

I'm glad I took the train to Philadelphia-- I had forgotten how much I appreciate the leg room that transportation offers. Leg room is important when you're over six and a half feet tall. So, walked around Philly, had the obligatory cheese steak, re-read the Constitution. I highly, highly recommend checking out the ruins of the Eastern State Penitentiary, the first prison of its kind in the world when it opened in the 1800s. The audio tour is narrated by Steve Buscemi-- and who doesn't want to hear Steve Buscemi narrate a prison?

I'm going to Philadelphia this weekend. I hear they've got a happening scene. As in, many things happened there between 1750 and 1790. In other news... giant squid!
